Lord willing, this document will prove to be an encouragement and blessing to those who have the wonderful task of searching for a new shepherd of the sheep. The following thoughts are the result of someone asking if voting for a pastor was like casting lots. The answer to their question was, “Yes, if biblical principles are not followed.”

In the first passage the apostles were being asked to do some church administration – to care for some widows. Now that is an important and loving ministry. But they responded by saying that this was not the most important priority for them.

A pastor’s responsibilities or duties are given in several key passages in the my review here New Testament. There is also a previous question and answer that may be helpful. What are the responsibilities of elders and/or pastors? The chart below provides a summary.

At the end of this document is a questionnaire which is entitled, “What Should The Pastor Do?” A number of responsibilities that pastors are sometimes expected to perform are listed. Some church leadership teams expect a pastor to perform only some of them, and some churches might expect a pastor to perform all of them.

That is, they repeat the sin and do not stop. This does not mean that those involved in the restoration of the pastor or elder must start looking for other sins. Those involved in the process must not become judgmental and “pile-on” the elder.

A pastor’s primary responsibly in the ministry is to shepherd and teach the congregation that the Shepherd of shepherds has given him. The size of the congregation does not determine his success in the ministry.

Consequently, how should the church respond? They need to trust the leaders, the elders of the church. The only facts that should be accepted Vencedor truth is what is communicated by the leaders.

Is your pastor guilty? If so, how should the church respond? Those are the two most important questions that must be considered when answering the question, “Should our pastor continue in the ministry after his wife divorced him?”

Consequently, many grads will tend to understand Scripture according to the theological program they were taught. Yet many church leaders who serve on a search or calling committee tend to view a seminary graduate as knowing the entire Bible. Compared to them the seminary graduate is an expert. Yet, he is still spiritually mature with years of growth ahead of him and the entire Word of God to study.

Are the criteria for removing a pastor that two-thirds of the lay elders have left the church or that fifty percent of the church members have left for another church? The answer to these is given below along with biblical guidance for taking action.
